Michael “Mike” G. Murphy, Sr.

73, of Oxford, went to be with the Lord, Thursday, July 13, 2023.

He was born January 17, 1950, in Hamilton, to the late Louis F. and Elva E. (Sipe) Murphy.

In addition to his parents, Mike was preceded in death by his wife, Susan; daughter, Amanda; brothers, Paul and Larry; aunt, Eunice; and best friend, Lanny Abney.

He is survived by his children, Jennifer (Jason) Evans, Jessica Powell, Evelyn Huntsberry, Michael Murphy Jr., Angela Murphy, Nicole Murphy, and Jason Sturgill; numerous grandchildren; and siblings, Barbara (Dick) Glasmeier, Anita Riley, Janet Blair, Carolyn (Joe) Stanforth, Francis Murphy, Charles Murphy, Kathy (Barry) Maddock, Virginia Smalley, and Deborah (Linda Pekar) Murphy.

After proudly serving his country in the US Army, Mike returned home and worked for a few different places, and retired from the City of Oxford, Street Division.

His love for motorcycles and muscle cars was unparalleled. The wind in his face, the thrill of the open road—it was a freedom he cherished. Mike spent countless hours cruising along scenic routes, indulging in the beauty of nature and the joy of the ride.

When not behind the wheel, Mike could be found at the local bowling alley, eagerly engaging in his favorite sport. The sound of bowling pins crashing and the camaraderie of fellow bowlers created an atmosphere where Mike thrived.

He found tranquility in the art of fishing. Casting his line into serene lakes and rivers, Mike patiently awaited the gentle tug that signaled the presence of a fish. The stillness of those moments allowed him to reflect on life's simple pleasures, embracing the harmony between man and nature.

A visitation will be held Thursday, July 20 from 11AM to 1PM at BALES FUNERAL HOME, Camden.  The funeral service will begin at 1PM and burial with military honors to follow at Darrtown Cemetery, Darrtown.
