Middletown

Joyce R. (Arrowood) Kelley

80, of Middletown, went Home to be with the Lord, Friday, January 10, 2025.

She was born May 26, 1944, in West Middletown, to the late James G. and Pearl J. (Lawson) Arrowood.

In addition to her parents, Joyce was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Gerald Kelley; and siblings, Hallibe McGuire, James Arrowood, Gary Arrowood, Herschal Arrowood, Norma Arrowood, Lloyd Arrowood, Callie Elam, Wonda Malsbury, Imogene Craft, JoAnne Howard, Eileen Walters, and Darlene Brackney.

She is survived by her son, Jerry L. (Becky) Kelley; daughter, Jill (Scott) Gannon; grandchildren, Jordan Kelley, Kyle (Lindsay) Lawson, and Colt Gannon; great grandchildren, Jenna, Hailey, Cash, Brooklyn, and John David; and many nieces and nephews.

For 27 years, Joyce served as a dedicated Physical Therapy Assistant at Mt. Pleasant Retirement Village, where she was known for her compassion, kindness, and unwavering commitment to helping others. Her career touched the lives of many, and her caring spirit will be greatly missed by the countless individuals she worked with throughout the years.

Joyce was a faithful member of Dixie Highway Christian Center, where she found comfort and strength in her faith. Her love for God was evident in everything she did.

One of Joyce’s greatest passions was genealogy. She spent years meticulously tracing her family roots back to the 1600s, long before the convenience of the internet made such research commonplace. Her dedication to uncovering her family’s history was a reflection of her curiosity and reverence for the past.

Joyce also found joy in "working in the yard," as she affectionately referred to gardening. The time she spent nurturing plants and creating beautiful spaces in her yard was a testament to her love of nature and her hands-on approach to life.

An avid traveler, Joyce relished visiting with her family, always seeking new adventures and opportunities to connect with those she loved. Her enthusiasm for life extended beyond her travels, as she also had a love for roller skating in her younger years, a passion that she carried fondly throughout her life.

A visitation will be held Wednesday, January 15 from 11AM to 1PM at BALES FUNERAL HOME, Camden. The funeral service will begin at 1PM with Pastor Duane Harney officiating. Interment will follow at Fairmound Cemetery in West Elkton, where she will be laid to rest next to husband, Gerald.
