Kenneth “Kenny” Dale Smith
61, of Somerville, went Home to be with the Lord, Sunday, November 10, 2024.
He was born March 24, 1963, in Hamilton, to Paul and Shirley J. (Bowman) Smith.
Kenny was preceded in death by his dad, Paul; brother, David Wayne Smith; stepdad, Arley Holcomb; maternal grandparents, John and Alice Bowman; and paternal grandparents, Virgil and Willie Smith.
He is survived by his mom, Shirley; aunt, Carolyn Willis; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Kenny's dedication to his community spanned an incredible 38 years as a Special Deputy for the Butler County Sheriff's Office. Known for his reliability, Kenny was always there, assisting with day-to-day operations and working closely with the Canine Unit, a role he held with great pride and respect. His unwavering commitment left a lasting impact on his colleagues and friends, like Frank Marcum, who knew they could always count on him.
Outside of his work, Kenny had a deep love for the outdoors and could often be found hunting in peaceful solitude. He had a remarkable talent for woodworking, transforming pieces of wood into something beautiful and lasting, much like the way he touched the lives of those around him. In quieter moments, Kenny enjoyed relaxing with a classic Western or an episode of Star Trek, losing himself in the rugged landscapes and adventurous worlds that brought him joy.
A visitation will be held Wednesday, November 13 from 4PM to 6PM at BALES FUNERAL HOME, Camden. The funeral service will begin at 10AM on Thursday, November 14 at the funeral home with Pastor Ty Choate officiating. Kenny will be laid to rest at Rose Hill Burial Park in Hamilton, next to his beloved brother, David Wayne.
