Mildred J. Steele
84, of Camden, passed away, Saturday, November 9, 2024.
She was born October 1, 1940, in Revelo, Kentucky, to the late William D. and Margaret N. (Wright) Miller.
In addition to her parents, Mildred was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Nick Steele.
She is survived by her daughters, Betsy Gray, Jill (Dwayne) Terry, and Polly (Kathy) Steele-Puma; grandchildren, Krista Gray, Jared (Melanie) Gray, Brittany Terry, Jayla Terry, and Gabriel Steele-Puma; great grandchildren, Myles Terry, Heather Werts, Nellie Gray, and Liam Gray; siblings, Marilyn June Stewart and Gerald Miller; and many more family and friends.
When she was able, Mildred volunteered her time at the Little Shoppe of Sharing, where she graced the lives of those around her with warmth, kindness, and an endless capacity for love.
Mildred had a passion for the simple pleasures in life. She found happiness in the pages of a good book, often losing herself in stories that transported her to faraway lands. Her hands were rarely still, as she delighted in crocheting, creating beautiful pieces that brought comfort and joy to those fortunate enough to receive them. Crossword puzzles were another of her beloved pastimes, challenging her mind and offering a sense of accomplishment after each completed grid.
Her most precious moments, however, were spent outdoors, enjoying the beauty of nature. On warm days, she could often be found on her back deck, soaking in the sunshine with her faithful companion, her dog, Dixie. These quiet times were filled with reflection and gratitude, grounding her in the love and friendships that surrounded her.
A visitation will be held Friday, November 15 from 11AM to 1PM at BALES FUNERAL HOME, Camden, with the funeral service starting at 1PM. Mildred will be laid to rest next to her beloved Nick at Fairmount Cemetery, Camden.
